COFFEE CUP SOFTWARE - PINK PAGE

Further to my post yesterday, Coffee Cup have emailed all their customers to apologise for the title they gave to their newsletter announcing the breast awareness 'pink page'.
I didn't take much notice, but I believe it was entitled 'Help the Boobies' which doesn't worry me (its their commitment to donating to research that counts). However they have received complaints and have apologised to anyone who may have been offended.

They have also increased the amount they will donate to Breast Cancer Research - from 10% to 20% of revenue from purchases made from their 'pink page'.

Taking Advantage

I just received a phone call on our house phone. Since friends and family call our cell phones, I knew it had to be a stranger calling so I jotted down the number as listed on Caller ID. Caller ID listed the name as "unavailable". I don't know about you but that always raises a red flag to me and while we're on the "Do Not Call" list (where businesses are forbidden to call without invitation), we get tons of so called charity solicitations.

So, I went to google and searched for this particular phone number. It came up as a Breast Cancer charity. However, there were many comments about this particular number/charity on various online forums and the consensus was that this particular charity is a scam. I won't give the phone number or charity name here as I can't verify their legitimacy or lack of it.

I just want to caution everyone to be very careful about giving to just any charity with the words "breast cancer" in it's name. Since this is Breast Cancer Awareness month, the scam artists will be out in force.

There are many wonderful organizations out there who are very worthwhile. Then there are those sleaseballs who take advantage of the soft hearts of those who so generously give so that others can live. We're losing too many loved ones like Vic's sister and donations are crucial for continued research so please don't quit giving - just know where your money is going.

Please give to organizations that you know will use the donations wisely. If you're ever in doubt about an organization, check it out. It's so easy to do in this day and age and your diligence will make sure your money is going somewhere it will do some good!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Hi all,
We are approaching Oct and this in turn means Breast Cancer Awareness month, which will herald a lot of events and pink projects for everyone.
I have myself have one of two designs in mind for the AIP shop, and hope to have those done within the next few weeks. I must apologise for my lack of updates recently, but if you read my previous post then you will know that September is a kind of a difficult month for me, with my thoughts else where, more so because it is a first anniversary and I think the hardest one to get through.
If anyone still fancies contributing, please drop me a line it will be most welcome.

September Thoughts

Hi all,
September is here once again and it seems almost impossible to believe that a year has passed since the loss of my dear sister, time seems to pass so quickly with a very surreal feel to it. I have just returned from spending time with my family and a few close friends to remember the Ist anniversary of her death from Breast Cancer. The day dawned beautiful and was so warm with wall to wall sunshine, which was great. We did not want it be a mournful time but more about remembering her as she was, so we went to the church where her funeral was held and lit some candles with a quiet time for prayer and thoughts. In the beautiful garden we let go some pink balloons which flew high, and watched them go until they faded from sight, and afterwards had a family meal at a lovely restaurant. Flowers arrived far and wide all with shades of pink and some as far away as Oz, and Mums home looked and smelt like a florist ! As she had many many friends they gathered in the evening and raised a glass in her memory, and where her ashes were spread more pink balloons were released. There were tears, me included, one can only expect that, but also smiles, and that was important. She would not of wanted us to be all sad and mournful, and as one one of her last dying wishes was to keep her memory alive I think that we did that very well......I know she would of been chuffed to bits. Always in my thoughts xxxxx.
